Wet Dog and Vomit

That’s how I described the smell of the mobile home on the property, a combination of wet dog and vomit smell. Since we are planning on renting the mobile, we needed to get rid of that smell. 16 years of cats and dogs and who knows what else had taken its toll. The previous owner steam cleaned the carpets. That didn’t do it. I left the windows open for a week. Nope – that didn’t do it, either! Alas, new carpeting was needed.

Many thanks to my mom and the Gentleman Rancher, who came over on their day off to help me remove the carpet and padding (the Lovey was in Asia on business travel. Nice excuse!). It was a dirty, stinky, hot, gross job.

The staples were removed, and the sub-floor was swept clean.

Baking soda was sprinkled (and in some places poured) over the floor, swept into all the cracks and crevices, and left it sit. You know, like putting a box of baking soda in the fridge to take the smells away. Same concept here. In the heavily stinky areas, I swept the baking soda in, vacuumed it out, swept another dose in, and let it sit. I did that three times in the really bad places.

So now it smells like nothing. Nothing. The smell of success.
